UnPrisoned returns to television with a new season!

The second season of the series about Paige Alexander (Kerry Washington) dealing with how her father adjusts to life as a civilian once again is ready to delight audiences with its wholesome humour and emotional storytelling. The second season of the Hulu show is already here, and Muses of Media had the opportunity to speak with the cast of the show about what’s to come for their characters. There’s no telling what’s going to happen in the relationship between Paige and her father, Edwin (Delroy Lindo), but if the first season taught audiences anything, it is that they’re never giving up on one another.

Watch our interviews with Tracy McMillan, Marque Richardson, Jordyn McIntosh and Faly Rakotohavana below!

Tracy McMillan, the creator of UnPrisoned, continues to feel very proud about what she has achieved with the Hulu production. One of the most important moments in any production is when more episodes are approved by the network.

McMillan thought this as soon as she heard UnPrisoned would come back for a second season: “I’m so grateful we got season two. Because I knew I wanted to dive deeper into the family and how we were going to get them back together. This is really a show about when things happen in life. Every family has something happen. Mass incarceration is what happened to this family. And then, how do they go on to trusting and loving each other? That’s really what I wanted to show. Getting to the nuts and bolts. I also wanted to make it funny!”

Marque Richardson reprises his role as Mal the former love interest of Paige. In the new episodes of UnPrisoned, Mal has found a new partner after things didn’t work out with Paige the last time.

When asked about how his character had evolved in season 2, Richardson stated, “(Season 2) is spicy. It burns the tongue. Last season, Mal was strong with his boundaries. He was firm when saying yes. Maybe there was a line that was crossed with the relationship with Paige, but it didn’t work. In the second season, we get to see him put that to the side and kudos to Mal, because he’s focused on his mission. Part of that is continuing to help and win power in his life, restructure and connect with the things that matter to him. We really get to see Mal grow in some aspects while being immature in some other aspects. He’s imperfect, as all humans are. ”

Jordyn McIntosh returned in the second season of UnPrisoned as a younger version of Paige, and the young performer made a statement with her portrayal of the character.

Regarding what made her excited about returning for the new episodes of the series, the actress said, “I was so excited because I had the chance of getting back together with everybody, which was amazing. It was different. Because on the first season, I was nervous to walk on set. But in this season, I opened them doors: ‘Hello, everyone!’”

Faly Rakotohavana returns as Paige’s teenage son, Finn, in the second season of UnPrisoned. The actor was asked how Finn would continue to deal with the unique struggles the first season introduced in the show’s new episodes.

Here’s what he had to say: “I don’t necessarily think it’s too different. I just think we get to see it from a different perspective this time. We actually get to see it from inside Finn’s head. We get to see what’s going on firsthand. Before, we got to see the effect it had on him, but now we get to live through it. We get to see what’s happening and how he’s getting through it. It’s generational trauma. He’s almost like a clear reflection of Paige in the way that Delroy’s actions have affected Paige, and now Paige’s actions are affecting mine. You know, I had that one line, ‘If all your problems are caused by grandpa, then all my problems are caused by you.’ You get to see what, down the line, what the incarceration system does to people.”
